Petrus Italus Trust (PIT)

It was founded in 2021 with the aim of bringing architectural heritage back to the heart of communities. Through building rescue, restoration training, and cultural and community events, we help community members understand the cultural richness that heritage buildings bring to everyday life, thus promoting the long-term protection of architectural heritage.

We are an alliance of specialists and activists from Bistrița-Năsăud County, who see cultural heritage as a collective resource, which needs protection, valorization, reflective restoration and harmonious integration into the lives of the communities that inherited it.

Our mission

The Petrus Italus Trust Association - Alliance for Bistrița Heritage, is the regional host of the Ambulance for Monuments project. AMB-BN was born in 2022 out of the desire to save the Fortified Church of Vermeș from ruin.

Launched in 2016 by the Monumentum Association, this umbrella project has secured 15% of Romania's historical monuments through emergency interventions carried out by expert restorers, architects, students, volunteers and craftsmen, with the support of local communities and authorities. Its achievements have been recognized with the Europa Nostra Award, the most prestigious European distinction on the topic of heritage protection.
